Vista (Dual Boot)
I was expecting to see the dual boot menu for "Vista" and "Older version of Windows" but instead the system booted strait into Windows XP. I checked drive E: (the second partitions of my RAID 0 Raptors) and all the Vista install was there but the system did not see Vista at all..... Any ideas how to cure the

I had installed build 5384 of Vista x64. After installing Vista, I did not get the expected boot manager to choose between Vista and XP Pro. It wasn'ta big deal as Vista At this point XP is booting, but I have a problem with Explorer just hanging after loading the desktop. Can't open icons or the Start menu.

If you don't nuke the XP partition, then Vista will set up a boot menu for you, so you can choose which OS loads. Nothing could be easier. IF your hardware is 100% vista compatible. It's not that easy to GET 100% compatibility, even if you start from scratch and build a new system. -Dave.

The HDD itself is "Basic" type not "Dynamic" and that's my problem, because if I want to install Vista as per the guide I have to be able to create a "simple volume" When you want to dump XP, just reformat the partition that contains it. There will be no dual-boot menu adjustment to make to remove boot.ini's

This way XP, and/or, I assume, VISTA will then create the dual-boot menu seen when you start the system. Also, I believe 98SE would have to go on a FAT32 drive whereas SYS so it does not load Windows upon restart and the same batch program modifies the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to load the AutoCAD program upon restart.
